Samrong Bay Beach

S amrong is a tiny bay, which seabed is almost completely covered with coral gardens and colonies of seaweed. Sharp corals await you by the very shore, and you may cut your foot upon your first two steps. That’s why it is highly recommendable to enter the water in Samrong Beach, only wearing special slippers for swimming. Even the fact, that it is very shallow here and the darkening in the water seaweed can be easily seen, doesn’t help.
In the northern part of the bay, there is a pontoon pier, from which you can go down to the clear bottom, leading as a narrow pathway to deeper waters. You will have to walk farther for about 50 meters in order to dive and swim at last.

H owever, due to the fact, that the water is a bit muddy and full of coral thickets, carefulness won’t be unnecessary. As for the rest, Samrong Beach is quite pleasant: fine, soft sand of light creamy shade and no litter at all.
A minute bay Samrong is situated near the most northern point of the island of Koh Samui, on the nose of cape Plai Laem. The bay overlooks north-east and takes up only 200 meters in length. It is hidden between two rocky slopes, densely covered with green carpet of vegetation. If you climb the hills, rising above the northern end of the beach, a breathtaking view of the bay will come into sight, as well as a small plot of Plai Laem Beach from another side of the cape, a little isle Koh Som, and across the way – a bigger neighbor of Koh Samui – Koh Phangan island.

O nly five hotels share the beach, among which only hotel complex Arayaburi offers a free passage to the beach through its territory. Samrong Beach cannot boast a great diversity of leisure activities. As for beach entertainments, there is only volleyball and kayaking. The nearest places of interest – Big Buddha on Bangrak and Wat Plai Laem Temple with the statue of 18-handed goddess Ghuan Yin.

T he closest accumulation of bars is also on Bangrak. Moreover, nearby, in the district of Plai Laem Beach, there is a mini-golf course, and on Choeng Mon there is a course for an amuzing sport called football-golf. It is not a short way from Samrong to all those amusements if to go on foot: you will have to hire a motorbike or a car, or to go by taxi.
