More Beaches of Koh Samui

C oral Cove is a tiny bay with coarse reddish sand. The beach here is very clean: there are no bottles and old palm branches beneath your feet. On the left and on the right there are gigantic boulders growing right from the sand, like frightening guards, protecting an access to the bay from the sea. In glades between the boulders you can find hiding places to get away from strangers sight in this by far secluded oasis.…

P erhaps, Lamai could be called the best beach for those, who feel like diving into the water right here and right now. At the same time, the sea won’t be cloudy as on Maenam, Bophut or Big Buddha Beach. The water here is deep and clean, and on a clear day – it is of jade-green shade. In order to submerge up to your shoulders it is only enough to make a few steps on a sandy bed without any silt. If there are some shreds of seaweed, it is only after storms, when they are thrown onto the shore from the depths of the stormy sea.…

N ahai Beach is not the place, where you can jump at a run into the sea. It is shallow here at high tide, and at low tide, you will have to walk a very long way to the water. The sandy strip of the beach is from 15 up to 40 meters wide in different places. It mergers into the shallows and sandbanks, stretching out to the horizon for hundreds of meters (in the widest place – for about half a kilometer). There is a narrow coral range, ringing the aquatic area of the beach along its whole perimeter. It prevents the formation of waves, and at high tide, all the space of the aquatic area if filled by a thin layer of water, smooth like a mirror.…

L aem-Nan beach will be attractive for those, who prefer spending time with a book or with a cocktail on a deck chair and watching tropical landscapes to water sports and games. Those, who are keen on sport, will have to look for another place for rest: Laem-Nan is only suitable for jogging early in the morning or before going to bed. You can sit or walk in the water – it is too shallow for swimming. However, the bottom is mainly oozy with clusters of seaweed and sharp coral chips. It is not very pleasant to walk on it barefoot, moreover, it is possible to cut your feet.…

T he sea on Bang Kao Beach is shallow with a bad – mainly oozy and stony – bed. In the east the area of shallow water is the most extensive: it stretches into the sea for more than 400 meters. The strip of the shallows narrows westward of the beach. Dense coral gardens start just after the shallows. It is because of them the sea bed is so unpleasant. On the one hand, they are the centre of concentration of sea wildlife and produce a lot of organic waste. On the other hand, they restrain the tide, preventing it from clearing the bed.…
